Marketing USA Military Hardware
The Washington Post reports that a Pentagon official has warned that Venezuela’s purchase of aircraft and weapons from Russia “… has an effect of intimidating neighbors … and democracies in the region need to be able to respond to this in a way that will help reduce this kind of threat,…”
The report also notes that “The Bush administration has banned U.S. arms sales to Venezuela, criticized Chavez’s purchase of jets from Moscow and said his plans to build rifle factories raise concerns about weapons reaching guerrillas in neighboring Colombia.”
I have long understood that USA wars are waged so that captains of the munitions industries may become even richer, but have just now come to understand this particular marketing scheme, and put forth by a Pentagon official no less.
The USA government cuts off military sales to the national enemy de jour, that nation turns to other sources for military hardware, the USA government officials counsel neighboring nations as to the threat posed by the enemy nation, and the USA government offers cut-rate, taxpayer subsidized sales of military hardware to address that threat. The scheme has worked for fifty years by demonizing Cuba.
It’s one of the ways the rich folks extract money from those of lower incomes without protest. Farming the USA treasury takes many forms, waging war is one of the old regulars.
