Legal Congressional Bribery
Laura Rozen, at her excellent blog War and Piece, linked to a NYT report of the system of legal bribery congress operates under. Things really haven’t changed much since the days of railroad barons paying congressmen to engineer congressional railroad grants that paid by the mile in cash and vasts tracts of land.
Executives of telecommunication giants Verizon and ATT gave $42,000. of quid to Senator John Rockefeller while they sought congressional action to shield their companies from any legal fallout that may ensue from illegally providing customer records to the brown shirts at the NSA. Rockefeller, chair of the Senate Intellegence Committee, provided the quo.
