“The Mexico Freedom of Information Program”
The National Security Archives, housed at George Washington University, launches a “New Web Page on Mexico’s Freedom of Information Program”.
I have noticed that Mexican government web sites I’ve perused each contain a link to a transparency statement.
Last November I posted a link to the National Security Archive’s page containing information released by the Mexican government dealing with “Mexico’s Dirty War”. The page is here.
The National Security Archive is a repository of USA government, and now Mexican government, documents, generally obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests, documenting government agencies’ misdeeds in various countries around the world. The NSA collection also includes documents related to the “Cuban Missile Crisis” and President Kennedy’s subsequent contacts with the Cuban government.
If, for instance, you want to read official documents recounting Kissinger discounting the lives of innocent Chileans in the interest of saving Chile from the communist boogeyman, the National Security Archives has it. Likewise there is a good collection documenting the 1953 deposition of the legitimate Iranian government. Likewise the deposition of the Guatemalan government.
It is a great resource which I heartily recommend.
