Senator Charles Grassley’s Crusade

You may have heard that Sen. Grassley, of Iowa, ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, has requested financial information from six ministry concerns , with mega-church and televangelist operations. The ministries all “preach a form of Word of Faith theology, known as prosperity gospel, which teaches that God wants believers to reap material rewards for their faith.”

Why is such a matter appropriate for Senate review?

Sen. Grassley’s concerns could be put to rest by eliminating the tax exemption (preference) for religious institutions. Like that will ever happen.
