Ruminations of an Expatriate

I had no intention of commenting on Geraldine Ferraro’s recent ridiculous remarks, which I had passed off as just more election season lunacy. Than I was led to Will Bunch’s comments by the Talking Points Memo, and found them to ring very true.

If you missed Ferraro’s comments:

“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”

And later, after Obama campaign officials registered their objections.

“Racism works in two different directions. I really think they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?”

Yeah, Obama is nothing more than an affirmative action beneficiary.

This kind of stuff from Clinton supporters (Shahenn, Kerrey, Johnson, Bill Clinton, Mark Penn, and now Ferraro) is disgusting; and, I am convinced, by design.

Meanwhile Ferraro is “hurt” and “appalled” that anyone who understand her comment as attributing Obama’s success to nothing more than his African-American descent.  It is indeed “silly” season.
