Real Americans appreciate illegal immigrants’ ambition and drive and hard work. To meet someone serving fast food or roofing who speaks two or three languages and works two or three jobs. The gullible followers of Lou Dobbs et al. are surrendering to fear in a very sad way.

I agree, though I would say “good” Americans, as opposed to “real”.

I agree that most real [that is, actual] Americans see the nation’s imperial trappings as part of the background (which they don’t even notice).

But after the Vietnam war the pendulum swung pretty far back from naked jingoism, for a while. This quagmire is no different in that respect.

Welcome
As I proceed into my mid-life adventures, of travel and relocation, I intend to regularly post updates of my activities.

I also intend to post reminiscences, ruminations and editorial commentary on whatever subject is currently abrading a lesion under my saddle.

The header photo is of Cuban children bouncing on a tree limb I encountered in 2004 while hiking up the mountain to visit Los Aquaticos, folks living in an area of the mountains overlooking the Vinales Valley accessible only on foot or horseback. Los Aquaticos believe the water in their community is special, bath multiple times per day in the water and dry themselves in the mountain air.
