National Intelligence Estimate

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Just a month and a half after Incurious George proclaimed to the world, “So I’ve told people that, if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them [Iran] from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon,” the just released National Intelligence Estimate indicates that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003. The NIE was presented to the White House last July, according to the administration.

Of course, I’m sure we are all quite shocked to learn that Bush, the psychopathic Cheney posse and their propagandists have been lying to us.

Those interested in the subject should read Juan Cole’s take at his Informed Comment blog. Apparently an Iranian former deputy minister of defense defected to Turkey in early 2007 and has been talking.

Guiliani’s Middle East adviser, Norman Podhoretz, editor-at-large of Commentary magazine and a founder of the neo-fascist movement, says it’s just a matter of the CIA trying to discredit Bush and protect Iran.

Seymour Hersh, who more than a year ago wrote accurately about the NIE released yesterday, asserts that the NIE has been in the White House for longer a a year and that Darth Cheney didn’t like it so withheld it.

John Bolton, of course, opines that since the NIE doesn’t support his ideological bent to conquer Iran that it must be wrong.

Do you think it’s possible that Incurious George finally realized it wasn’t such a good idea to leave his presidency to Cheney?
